Yearbook University will be held at Oregon State University in Corvallis, OR


Yearbook University is the perfect opportunity for your staff to come together, set goals and walk away with a jump-start for your 2018 yearbook. By the time you and your staff leave camp, you’ll have your theme completed, cover designed, ladder planned and sections mapped out in great detail.

Our Speakers

Casey Nichols–Our keynote speaker
Casey is a graduate of Ball State University with a MA in Journalism. He taught middle school journalism for 11 years at his alma mater, Eich Intermediate School, and has been the journalism teacher and department chair for Communication Studies at Rocklin High School, Rocklin, CA for 17 years. Nichols is a frequent speaker at workshops and conventions. His yearbook staffs have won numerous Gold Crown and Pacemaker awards. For service, Nichols has won the Pioneer, Gold Key, and JEA Medal of Merit Award. He was the 2005 JEA Yearbook Adviser of the Year.
Jill Hardy–mentoring our new advisers
Jill is an instructor and administrator at Enterprise High School in Redding, CA. Learn practical classroom strategies, tips and tricks that helped her win the National Yearbook Program of Excellence her first year as adviser. During her many years teaching Jill has served as a mentor teacher.

Why you should attend

The real question: why not? You’ll learn the latest trends, tools and resources from great instructors, bond with your staff, network with colleagues, work with professional artists to design a great cover, develop your theme, begin work on your designs, hang with your representative and best of all, GET AHEAD of the game.

What to bring

Your 2017 yearbook. At least one copy and if you have extra copies and would like to share with others, feel free to bring those as well!
Your Camera(s): Bring your best cameras (including USB cords and/or card readers).
Computers: Computers will NOT be available so if you plan to create on Yearbook Avenue, you will need to bring a laptop or desktop computer for each person who will want to work with Yearbook Avenue.

Who should attend

Everyone! Bring your whole staff, bring your key student leaders or just bring yourself. There will be groups of all kinds, and we have something for everyone. It is STRONGLY recommended that ALL new advisers attend the workshop to receive vital training.

When to be there

Monday, August 7: Check in will begin at 1:00 pm. The workshop opening session will begin promptly at 2:30 pm.
Monday, August 7: Make this your staff bonding night. Plan ahead to eat out with your team and enjoy something in downtown Corvallis.
Wednesday, August 9: The workshop concludes at 11:30 am.
A complete daily schedule will be provided before the workshop to allow you to plan commutes, drop-offs and pick-ups if applicable.

What you will learn

Everything! The workshop will include instruction in software,theme, coverage, content, design, photography and marketing. Best of all, our practical balance of instruction time and lab time allows you to IMMEDIATELY APPLY what you learn and have concrete materials to REALLY USE in the book. This structure is informative, fun and instantly beneficial.

What is your investment

Workshop fees are only $185 per person. This includes all instruction, lunch and dinner on Tuesday, a tee shirt and instructional materials.

Where to stay

Please note: LODGING IS OPTIONAL and SEPARATE from your workshop registration. We have obtained a group rate from the Hilton Garden Inn in Corvallis but you are free to stay wherever you like in the Corvallis area if you are not commuting to the workshop.
The Hilton Garden Inn has offered us a  group rate of $139 per night (two queens, indoor pool, complimentary WiFi) and that is only valid through June 30 so register early.  For reservations, call the hotel  at 541-752-5000 and mention Jostens. or go to their website by clicking here.


How much does it cost to attend Yearbook University?

Workshop Investment $185: Includes workshop registration, materials, t-shirt, all special events, one lunch (on Tuesday).

What are the Registration Deadlines?

Do we have to register online?
